Tuesday’s Selections, Review & Results (09 August)

Not the greatest days racing we’ve ever seen but a couple of half decent offerings at Nottingham.  It’ll all be different this time next week with York’s Ebor Festival (can’t wait!).

Today’s selections are:

Ayr
16:00     Simonside (7) UP
16:30     Spinatrix (4.2) 2nd

Ffos Las
17:30     Just For Mary (5) 2nd

Nottingham
17:45     Kazbow (4) 2nd
19:45     Star Rover (8.8) UP

A severe case of seconditis today with a reminder to myself that if I start the blog with “A pretty uninspiring days racing” then the results aren’t going to be pretty!

Loss of -5

Simonside - my pick for the Ayr 16:00.......

.....not to be confused with Simonside - the place in the NE

REVIEW Ayr 15:00 8f Handicap, Class 5, 3yo+

There are only one or two of these runners that I have discounted easily – the rest all look to have fair chances so I’ve come to my selection by process of elimination!
Swiftly Done looks to be rather high in the weights - as does Casino Night, who has been waiting for this ground.
Sam Nombulist should win the prize in the clever names stakes!  He is still a maiden but ran his best race here over this distance and ground under the same jockey.  Another who’s dropped down a class but he has been off for 3 months so whether he runs well fresh is anyone’s guess – I’d rather wait until he has this run under his belt before backing him but do like him for the future.
Music Festival hasn’t run his best races on softer ground but know this track well - never venturing too far from it.  He looks to me as if he needs some more help from the handicapper before a win is imminent.
Spavento is a C&D winner but hasn’t been progressing well enough of late to persuade me that he’ll win off this mark.
So I’m down to two:
Marjury Daw is stepping down in class quite considerably in this.  There’s an enigmatic gap in her training record between December and April (no runs and different ownership), however she is back with James Given now and this race looks a lot more realistic (and confidence boosting?) than those contested of late.  She got going late LTO though and an outstanding entry for a Ripon 10f races suggests that connections think she’s better suited by longer.  I think she’s in with a big shout – particularly if Tylicki takes her to the front.
I’m Super Too hasn’t been penalised too harshly for his win LTO – that didn’t look the most competitive race though.  Both of his wins have been at Hamilton and I’m not convinced that he’s as good going left handed – in fact, you have to look back to April to find the last time he ran left handed.
Taking a deep breath, I’ll go for Marjury Daw with the drop in class to beat I’m Super Two (just!)
Marjury Daw  4/1
I’m Super Too (saver bet at 7/2)

Swiftly Done did what it says on the tin!  Hanagan is obviously worth a few lbs!!
