Pontefract 16:40 Veteran’s Handicap 8f, Class 4
I love mile long races at Pontefract – mainly because you can discard any runner out of the low draw almost immediately! Over 61% of winners come from a low draw over a mile here. Pontefract is a fairly idiosyncratic track and it does well to have a horse that has shown a liking for it (placed at least) and a jockey who knows his/her way around. Being a veteran race, it would be nice to see some recent form as well! This leads me to Motafarred – a Hammond runner with Paul Hanagan up (as he was for Micky Hammonds last winner a week ago at Goodwood). You can forgive his last run at Carlisle – a track which couldn’t be any more different that Ponty – and look to his penultimate run here over C&D. He came a creditable 2nd on this first run back since last November and carrying exactly a stone more than today …and from a lousy draw (the winner came from draw 2).
Motafarred 7/1 Just out of the places in 4th - would you believe it, the winner was drawn high...2nd, 3rd, 4th all low (clever ride on the winner by Eddie Ahern - credit where it's due)
I’ve never seen the film called Up but I’m going off these two letters! Strangely unproductive day on the racing front.

-7pts
So in summary, we need a big upset in the 15:10 at Ponty and Fallon needs to ride at least a double today!
One more than that please! (Retitled "Hands up who didn't ride a winner today") |
