Saturdays Selections & Results - Ayr Gold Cup Day 17 September

The going at Ayr is Soft (Heavy in places) and Newmarket is back on the Rowley Mile tomorrow -  Summer is well & truly a distant memory!
My daughters advise on hearing the going at Ayr?  "Pick horses with big feet Mum!"...anyone have a card listing the runners shoe sizes?

Today's system selections are:
Ayr
14:45              Miss Work Of Art 2nd
17:35              Bridle Belle UP

Newmarket
14:55              Jubilance UP
16:40              Invincible Hero 3rd

Catterick
15:45              Plattsburgh UP

Wolverhampton
17:50              Best One UP
18:20              Rightcar 3rd
18:50              Supercharged UP
20:50              Iron Green UP

More like a typical Saturday!  Non-winning day with a loss of -9

I've been waiting for Fallon to ride Caspar Netscher - I just thought they'd suit each other - not that Robert Winston did much wrong on him I hasten to add!  Winston is suspended today so they pair up today at Newbury in the Mill Reef Stakes at14:30 and 6f around a left handed galloping track on good to soft looks the perfect combination even with a penalty.  If there's much more rain then Saigon, his closest threat, won't run.  His namesake was a Dutch Baroque artist by the way - he's sired by Dutch Art, the same daddy as Miss Work Of Art!!
Caspar Netscher 1st

Damn talented horse that Caspar Netscher - here's one he did earlier!

At Ayr over the past 2 days, there have been 3 large field 5f & 6f and a smaller field (14 runners) 7f race.  Each has been won by a front runner (prominent or made all - which is a pretty obvious conclusion really!) and drawn low.......following this line of reasoning today, the runners who fit this criteria and who also handle the going are:

Ayr 14:15 Ayr Silver Cup (Handicap) 6f (Class 2) 3yo+ (27 runners)
  • Parisian Pyramid
  • Valery Borzov (loves the mud!)
  • Joseph Henry
  • Grissom
Ayr 15:20 Ayr Gold Cup (Heritage Handicap) 6f (Class 2) 3yo+ (27 runners)
  • Light From Mars
  • Mayson  (? re going - never  raced on this soft)
  • Croisultan (also loves the mud!)
  • Pepper Lane
These aren't selections but more a selection aid!  Although if any of them win I shall claim it!
And wouldn't you know that the winners all came from the other side today (rain can do this!) and none of the above got a look in (may be a little harsh but none placed!)

Some racing Bloopers - very funny!

Well last night was beer and pizza!  It was a sad pizza though - the first we'd ordered in since Vinnie went to the big cat-chasing park in the sky.  He wasn't there waiting on the back of the sofa looking out the window for the delivery van as soon as I put the phone down (he always did this - don't know how he knew a pizza was on it's way but he did!) and there was no one asking for the crusts :-(

131                     115                    112
          56                         52                    25
