Thursday's Nap & Meydan Selections & updates - 12 January

My main betting website of choice often lags (too much graphics to load) so that when I scroll down the card to click and select my (hopefully winning!) pick, I have to be careful that my click doesn't land on the wrong choice.  Uncannily, I have been accidentally clicking and discarding quite a few winners lately!  Tavalu was one on Tuesday which schlepped on to my betting slip only to be thrown off then win at 16/1 but since not the most 'scientific' method of picking a winner, I think I'll stick to the old form-calculating try to beat-the-handicapper method.....

I'm going to have a good look at the Meydan card early morning tomorrow and put my selections up then but a fleeting glance has already spotted quite a few well known names from last year (Barbecue Eddie, Rock Jock, Hunting Tower, Musir et al) so there should be some really good, fun racing.  It's can be a lengthy process sometimes, trawling through information to compile the figures and strike rates for overseas  trainer and jockey performances but it can be worth it when I manage to find a Japanese dark horse at double figures (#cough# Victoire Pisa #cough#).

A couple of handy Meydan stats to help you sort the wheat from the chaff are:
  • Over a mile on tapeta, previous course form (a place!) is very important
  • Whereas a low draw is favourable over 7f on tapeta the opposite is generally true over a mile
  • Over 9f on the turf track,  a low or middle draw is almost essential
  • In 12f and 14f races on tapeta, I'd rarely consider any non Cumani or bin Suroor runner

Damn, if you took notice of my note for race 6 then you may have backed Songcraft....unfortunately I didn't manage to get around to doing this!!!  Even so, a good day with the two Meydan winners and a decent priced place means profits of +3.94

Notes:
1/            Red Gulch is a big threat but would be more so over a mile!
2/            Addictive Dream is the obvious danger horse but has never won races back to back and carrying +6lbs but then again does have plum draw
3/            Frankie doing 8-8 for this ride
5/            Xin Xu Lin has the opportunity to take advantage of lack of competition for the front and make all…
6/            It wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility for Songcraft to run in to a place or even a Godophin 1-2

My nightly nap is running in the 14:35 at Fontwell tomorrow with wonderboy Brendan Powell Jr on board Morestead once again.  He has no penalty for winning the conditional jockeys race LTO, BJ claims 5lbs and has won in the past when turned out this quickly so the price of 13/8 looks like value to me!

Another horse named after a place - this one is in Hampshire
