Saturday's Selections & Updates - 25 February

I had a nicely profitable evening (after a nicely profitable day) on Friday by backing George Bakers!
Both Thundering Home and Court Applause won nicely (David Kenny gave the first mentioned a very patient and cool ride - kudos to him for that) and so my double boosted the CheltFest funds.....I should elaborate!  I've noticed that George Baker (jockey) has been taking just one ride of and evening - no doubt to ease himself back into 100% fitness after the dreadful shoulder injury that he had not so long ago.  Friday night hanging around Wolverhampton for the last race (for Court Applause) is no fun so he must have been fairly hopeful of a win.  Thundering Home, I admit started off as a mistake!  I saw George Baker and thought that was his one ride when in fact it was trainer George Baker but I took a second look and liked it anyhow - confused yet?  Wait until I start mentioning George Baker the horse which is owned by George Baker and won last August ridden by.....you've got it!  Blame Harry Findlay!

Cheltenham entries are becoming non-runners by the shedload.  Fingal Bay has now joined the list that Grandouet, Roudoudou Ville, Backstage, Havingotascoobydoo, Recession Proof and Spirit Son are already on.  The curse of the antepost bet!

Ruby Walsh = 43% win rate in chases at Kempton.

Semi Colon looked for all the world as if she'd managed to keep  third but the photo said no.  She was just touched off for the place (dammit!)
Nacarat and Grumeti were the only winners on today's blog but the racing was very exciting today.  Dodging Bullets got the predicted forecast place and Grumeti hardly broke into a sweat to win the 15:40.  Baby Mix was back to his best - I'm still intrigued to know what happened last time though - particularly since the vet had a good look and found nothing ... !

Notes:
1/            Sadlers Risk is hot favourite but the stable is not fully firing (1 win from 38) which is enough for doubts.  Nicholls and Henderson have won the last five runnings between them but this time I reckon Une Artiste needs more juice and Dildar will have to improve considerably for his first run over hurdles but that wouldn’t be inconceivable.  I’m intrigued to see how Baby Mix runs this time after his last disappointing showing!
2/            Hunt Ball beat NSSD by 4l LTO so I figured that my pick needs at least a stone from Hunt Ball this time around and he’s more than got that plus the riders allowance on top (Another George Baker!)
3/            A puzzle for sure!  Hobbs (see note 1) recent record is putting me off Planet of Sound but regardless of that, his last win was in April 2010 and I would suggest he needs longer these days?  Nacarat is sliding back down the weights and this is hardly the King George this time.  I’ll give him a chance with an each way on Mount Oscar.  By the way, seven of the past ten winners of this race have been aged 7 or 8 which narrows the field down but also ought to rule out both of my selections!!
4/            Grumeti is having this run so that Choc Thornton can get a feel for him before Cheltenham.  He should win easily (Alan King won’t be tempting fate so close to the big race) but I’ll be interested to watch Dodging Bullets on his hurdling debut (bred by one L Dettori)

My Weatherby's Cheltenham Festival betting guide has arrived this morning which prompted me to book our cab for each day of the festival.....and get even more excited than I was already!!!
