It was good to see AP and Ruby back racing again at Ayr yesterday, although only Ruby managed a winner from the pair (naturally in the race where I had backed AP's ride!). I'm really looking forward to the action today (Saturday) with some very juicy (no pun intended - there's a lot of rain out there!) racing lined up with the Scottish National at Ayr and some group racing at Newbury.
I shall be watching out for the next time that Johnny Murtagh rides for William Haggas - two rides and two wins on Friday - not a bad statistic to remember.
The 18:30 at Bath last night (Fri) was full of 'incidents'. Freddie Tylicki was handed a 7 day ban for his riding which caused Gin Twist and Astrophysical Jet to clip heels and deposit their rides (Kingscote and Gibbons) on the turf at 40-45 mph. They were so lucky to get up and walk away (both horses were perfectly fine).
Which just goes to show that you should never change your mind (but changing minds did find the forecast)!
Three winners today contribute to a tidy profit of 3.65 (+ 52%)

Harris Tweed 1st

Notes:
1/ Harris Tweed he only had one outing
on soft last season and came a respectable 2nd in a Gr 2 (Hardwicke
Stakes) to Await The Dawn and he has his ground today. He won on his seasonal debut in 2010 so lack
of a recent run may not be too much of a negative

Notes:
1/ I have to confess that I selected
Greyfriarschorista (and backed it) but then noted the poor poor stable form
recently (1 win from 26 runners past fortnight) and too another look at the
race – now backed Unlimited as well as insurance!

Each night I update my draw bias stats (amongst others) and this tells me that 1m and mile and a half races at Newbury heavily favour low to middle draws whereas over 11f you be advised not to touch a low drawn runner unless it's pretty damn nifty! At Thirsk the best draw stat is for the mile races where low is the order of the day.
Nightly Nap is O 'Gorman running in the 16:25 at Thirsk (now non runner). He ticks all the boxes for me and seems very overpriced on BetFair just now (just grabbed some 3/1 where I'd have him closer to Evs). This trainer/jockey combo do well here, he's on a decent mark, C&D winner on the bit and although it's his seasonal debut, Kevin Ryan has had at least a couple of first time out winners very recently......the only ? is how he'll handle the soft going (not too many clues that I can find in the breeding) but I'm hopeful he'll cope!
NR at 10:51am (pah!) However the reason given was the going so perhaps this was a blessing in disguise and my faith in his coping with soft was unfounded ....
In O 'Gorman's absence, I'll dutch Kool Henry and Last Bid in this race (with slight preference for the former) - both have good draws and are dropping down a couple of grades so here's hoping that quality will prevail in the absence of a recent run!

On a totally non horseracing related note, humour me while I have a rant!
Can you believe what some dipstick (I'm being generous here) reversing their VW estate has done to this medieval cross on Thursday night (the base stones are only around 100 years old whereas the shaft dates from 1290). Apparently, he 'didn't know he'd done it' and I'm sure may even have driven away has his axle not been well and truly pushed out of line!!
It had managed to survive quite some years before Thursday as well........
