Despite all my good intentions and efforts at time management here, I am fast running out of this precious commodity before I take my hat, car and husband to Haydock (there are NOT in order of importance) so this will be the briefest of blogs - Haydock picks are at the bottom of this post.
Surely there can't be any doubt about who will win the Derby? And from that lovely middle draw that I flagged up yesterday on this blog and from which Shirocco Star almost won. It really does look to be a penalty kick as long as young Joseph has his clock set correctly with just 9 in the field. A Ballydoyle 1-2 (Camelot/Astrology) wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility!
I have picked my Haydock runners but these are subject to what I see in the paddock - but the paper/theory picks go like this (first picks to win, second selections where there are any each way):
13:40
Bayan 2nd- holds an entry for class 2 Tatts Millions 3yo cup, no problem with going or distance
Star For Life UP - only beaten by Father Of Science last time out but may want softer
14:10
Shubaat UP- No problems with the trip and looks to have been prepped for this. Callan back aboard (rode for both wins)
14:35
Red Jazz UP- should be head and shoulders over the field. C&D winner, trainer & jockey record here excellent, good draw and ground to suit.
15:10
Set To Music 2nd - owned by the Queen! Had a nice warm up race at York in the Middleton Stakes !! Looks primed for today back at mile and a half.
15:40
Samminder UP - was unlucky in his last two races and has Frankie to help him find the gaps today (go Frankie!) Bogart is the obvious threat but I think his penalty will be enough to prevent a win today.
16:40
Ladies Are Forever 3rd- by far the form choice here and should be able to improve on his third place seasonal debut lto.
Pepper Lane UP - was last seen way behind Ladies Are Forever but that was on soft ground and with good ground and Dettori up, may be able to improve into a place.
17:15
Heeraat UP - perfectly drawn to make all from stall 1 and trained by "he who can do no wrong" Haggas whose stable is on fire at present.

But at least this gives me an excuse to put this video up here:

"What? A swallow carrying a coconut? It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut." LOL
ReplyDeleteStill the most hilarious film ever made -- even 37 years after!
37 years ago? Eeek! The one redeeming feature about that fact is that I wasn't old enough to see it at the cinema ;)
ReplyDeleteYup. Way back 1975 :)
