Not the greatest of days but at least 1 winner unlike yesterday! Both Jewelled and Silenzio were unlucky in that neither got a gap but then holding up a horse at Windsor is always going to require some luck in running – you'd need a fairy godmother at Windsor to get through from last to first ............... Seb!!!
I’m not sure that the Ladies Card at Carlisle did an awful lot for the progress of women as jockeys in racing. All for charity so ... Poor Amy Ryan got hit with a 28 day ban for dropping her hands and getting headed on the line in the last race. She has been slogging away for the last 4f on Beneath and I feel desperately sorry for here as I’m sure it was nothing more sinister than sheer fatigue but rules are rules.
Monday racing isn’t always the best (understatement of the month so far)! Apparently, trainers don’t like their horses to win on a Monday or Tuesday as their rating does up the following weekend. If a horse wins on a Wednesday however, then the horse gets an extra 6 days with a mere 6lb penalty and doesn’t have to turn out as quickly.
Carlisle should be fun tonight with an all female jockey card – albeit the races are all pro-am which just demonstrates that there aren’t nearly enough professional female jockeys in the country if they can’t fill a race without calling upon amateurs. Either that or they don’t want to go to Carlisle. I notice that Hayley Turner is at Windsor against the men and her equalsJ (not that plenty of the other female jocks aren’t up to the standard I hasten to add!)
Although I vowed not to include amateur races in my system selections any longer, I figure that this rule only applies to 50% of the Carlisle card!!
Here are today’s:
