Wednesday’s Selections – 24 August

It was a great day for George Baker yesterday – all three of them!

There’s a special feature in the Racing Post today about the rise of the “female jockey” – this follows on of their question features which invites anyone with a password and log-on name to voice their opinions on the best jockey who happens to be female (my words, not theirs – they use the term ' female jockey' one of my pet hates).  Refreshingly, there were no chauvinistic or suggestive comments at all, the majority were comments which had been given a good deal of thought but all with one recurring theme – that Hayley Turner is the best of them all.

Julie Krone winning at the Breeders Cup
Julie Krone is a jockey that not so many will be familiar with.

She is/was a highly ranked US jockey who, amongst her many achievements won a Belmont Stakes and was also the first female to win a race at the Breeders Cup (the Juvenile Fillies race).  A film based on her autobiography (Riding For My Life) is currently in production which will be called “The Boys Club” and if it ever makes the screen, TV or DVD it sounds like it will be worth the watch.

Jule Krone will be riding at the St. Ledger Festival in a Legends race on the 07 September.

Today’s system selections are:

Catterick
15:50   Maggie Mey (7) UP

Kempton
19:20   Set Me Free (11) 2nd
21:20   Earlsmedic (7.2) 1st

Up and in profit +1.2 today (I put up Earlsmediclast night and backed it at 08:30 this morning.... before the Hughster ruined the price!)

It had to be done!  At least this is the 1971 version with the Faces
