Friday's Selections & Results - 30 September

The last day of the month and we're rushing headlong into jumps season - although with the recent heatwave (well heatwave may be a slight exaggeration but hot weather is boring) you'd never know it.

The racing whip news has now been replaced by the racing Arc news with lots of discussion about who will ride what (the Ballydoyle contingent will be interesting and Soumillon's ban makes it more so!), what the going will be, whether the runners will like the ground (apparently absolutely none of them will if you believe the trainers), and whether French soft ground the same as UK soft ground.... I am sure it is but with a lot more style and 'je ne sais quoi'!

The French jockeys are more streamlined (just look at their Gallic noses) and the French horses will all run faster because Danedream is amongst the field (German - think about it!) but it would be no surprise to me if a Japanese horse were to be placed - I think they are constantly underestimated.

However, I have yet to form a solid opinion though and have refused to look in any detail until closer to the day since there are just too many variables that can change - I shall spend some time on Saturday perusing, pontificating and plotting.
