Camelot is being given a huge build up by press, punters and bookies and has a lot to live up to (and may well do just that) whereas John Gosden is talking down Fencing's chances saying that he'll be a better horse next year and may well find one or two too good tomorrow.
There were four straight mile races at Doncaster yesterday (Friday) and three were won by horses with a mid-draw. This might give a clue to the Racing Post Trophy although with only 5 runners the effect will be downgraded somewhat. Fencing has a middle draw though!
Alas I'll not be there this year. Last year I had the best views from the RP Members box - I do remember that I only had one winner though which was Inler who I'd picked out purely on stats alone (rarely a successful way to pick a winner). I was still smoking back then and got bloody frozen running in and out to feed my nicotine habit!
The cleverest horsey name of the month award has to go to the Newbury winner on Friday that Richard Hughes bounced back on - Usain Colt! Brilliant!
Just a couple of selections to be going on with until the morning as Rumble's price is already disappearing from 11/2 and I've a feeling that Marine Commando will be tipped up all over the place in the morning so his price will go too....I wasn't wrong either!!
A good result for a Saturday with 9 runners and 4 winners and a profit of +9.15
Whilst looking through tomorrow's racing, one or two things caught my eye so I've noted them here!
Doncaster 14:00 - Of the past nine running, three winners were drawn stall 1, two were drawn stall 16, one drawn stall 15, the other two 13 and 6. Such a shame that the Tim Easterby stable has been in such poor form recently (Favourite Girl is drawn 1) but I'll still have a small e/w bet
I knew a lot of Americans have short attention spans but I've only just noticed that they have 1f races!!! Blink and you'd miss it....
Silvestre De Sousa has 13 rides Saturday as does Paul Hanagan. Kieren Fallon has just 5 rides spread over two meetings. SDS's agent says that they're going for it BIG TIME now and although Fallon is off to the Melbourne Cup (although he has some decent rides lined up before he goes) so there's still some life left in this title chase yet keeping my 33/1 SDS bet alive!
