Wednesday's Selections & Results - 12 October

Well yesterday drew a blank (no winners just a couple of places) and we have discovered one thing that the new whip rules are good for - blaming when my selections don't win!  Unfortunately, this isn't as tongue in cheek as it first sounds and I can't say that I'm terribly excited about the thought of watching the all weather action later today.  Pulsating grinding heart-in-the-mouth finishes....I don't think so!  I guess we'll have to wait for the Breeder's Cup meeting in the US now for that sort of excitement!

Lingfield 16:05 1mile, Class 5
Alfresco should relish the step up in trip from breeding and you cannot better George Baker for pushing a winner out on the AW.  He's dropping into class 5 and has been quite lightly raced over the summer so I'm quite hopeful.  Focail Eile is next best for me but is on a hefty mark at the moment - however, he may be the most willing at the end so I'll have a careful whip-friendly cover bet on him too!
Alfresco     12/1 UP
Focail Eile 11/2 2nd

Lingfield 16:40 1mile, Class 5
This looks a trappier race than the first division!  I've noted a few comments (and since they're noted I'll include them!)
If John Best with his record here at Lingfield couldn't get the most from Hurricane Spirit then I don't think Terry Clement is going to do any better (although this horse does come out top of my sheet).  L'Hirondelle on a slow sad decline (i.e. past it).
I have this between Songburst, L'Astre De Choiser and I think Blue Deer has an outside chance.  L'Astre De Choisir is running with a 6lb penalty and the manner in which he just got his neck in front LTO leads me to think the penalty will be too much.  Blue Deer appeared to click toward the end of her run LTO (her first on AW) and like Alfresco in the first division, looks sure to improve for the extra distance on breeding so I'll be having a small e/w saver.  Songburst as a nicely bred, very lightly raced 3yo from the Hannon is to be given careful consideration and having already won at a mile on the AW looks the most likely winner to me.
Songburst   11/2 2nd
Blue Deer     16/1 UP

Nottingham 17:20 1 mile, Class 5
There's a very defined low draw bias here over a mile and those drawn low are preferably front runners.  Dutchman's Field has the plum draw and likes to be up with the pace.  His 4th LTO (3l off the leader) is better than the result suggests as he was squeezed out/short of room.  He was never going to win but a 2nd was possible.  He has only been with Nicholls since August (2 runs with this stable) and more improvement is highly possible with Adrian Nicholls up for the first time today so I've talked myself into a small each way bet on this horse!
Dutchman's Field    25/1 UP

Kempton 21:20 6f, Class 6
Dingaan comes top of my sheet but has never won since joining his current trainer (Peter Grayson) in Nov 2010 but then again the jockey booking of  De Sousa catches the eye.  Grayson won earlier this evening with Vhujon so the stable form looks solid.
Glastonberry is next on my list - I don't know much about his trainer and the handicapper hasn't been incredibly kind for this his first foray away from maidens so this is enough to steer me away from backing him.
Radiator Rooney is 3rd on my sheet! Again the jockey booking is significant.  Richard Hughes has partnered him three times previously resulting in a win, a 2nd and most recently in May this year an unplaced but then that was 5f at Bath on firm ground!  He's recently come back from a break but I think will need a run or two more to get back into the winning groove so I'm going for my top line and stable in form, Dingaan.
Dingaan   9/2
