Friday's Cheltenham Open Day 1 Selections & Results - 11 November

Not much of a blog today as I was out for a family meal last night but it's good to see that the whip rules (or rather the punishments) have been relaxed just before the Cheltenham Open and the BHA making the right noises for the animal welfare groups that this is all to appease.  The timing comes just two days after the inaugural meeting of the new DEFRA offshoot, "Animal Health And Welfare Board for England" which I mentioned in this blog back on the 29 October.
In a nutshell, the entry level ban for exceeding the unchanged 7 or 8 strikes will now be 2 days and not 5 days and there'll be more discretion handed back to the stewards as well so it's not all quite so black and white now. e.g. a tap/flick down the shoulder may or may not count towards the total.  The PJA are going to continue to push for more change such as the length of time any offences remain on a jockeys license.
Back to an excellent 3 days racing at Cheltenham - If anyone is going then I'm not ashamed to say that I'm very, very jealous and genuinely hope you have an absolutely brilliant time.
