A briefer than brief blog today as I'm off out today.
Thanks to all who click on an advert if and when they back a winner they've got from here - it's much appreciated and keeps me in nice coffee :)
But I have time to write how heart warming it was to see Mattie Batchelor receiving so many congratulations and good wishes from all the other jockeys after winning the Hennessy on Carruthers yesterday. He is quite plainly someone who the other jockeys (and owners, trainers and stable staff) think an awful lot of and the win was all the more poignant as it came on the 2nd anniversary of his mother's passing.
A lot of people don't have any patience for John Francome and his presenting 'skills' - my husband for one cannot stand the man. I have to say that he is certainly able to find the negative in any situation (yesterday, it was Big Buck's short lived and uninspiring chasing career) but when he piped up that Empire Levant didn't win at Newbury yesterday because he'd had such a hard race two days before, even I was shouting at the TV. Winning by 29 lengths on the bridle with no opposition is by no stretch of the imagination a 'hard race'....I guess he tipped him to win before the race?! Most frustrating is that lesser obsessed interested people watching will have believed every word that he said and will have been left wondering what a great trainer like Paul Nicholls was playing at turning out a horse after such a 'hard race'.
I see Willie Twiston-Davies is back in the saddle today after two breaks in quick succession. He had a broken leg then two rides into his return he broke his collar bone. Fingers crossed that he's learned to bounce better!
Here are my Sunday selections - I'll be having a L15 on the first choices!
