Saturday's "Andrex Advert" Selections & Updates - 07 January

It'll be soft, soft, soft all over the place on Saturday so I'll expect there will be quite a few non-runners in the morning.

It's not the most exciting racing that we've ever seen on a Saturday but I'll be taking a very close look at the Sandown novice hurdle (14:35) in the morning with an ex-blog nap running, Magnifique Etoile - although he's up in class enormously and although his breeding suggests the going will suit, I'm not entirely convinced he'll want it this soft..
The French horse Captain Conan will be interesting.  They tend to carry less weight in France and their 'soft' (douce/mou?) is different to here - don't laugh, I'm serious!  He has been with Nicky Henderson (who is in top form right now) for a couple of months though so there's no question over his fitness and if an each way price is available (albeit two places) then he may be worth a chancing an investment - Henderson + hurdles + french horse = good combo.  For the win though, I'm (rather boringly) plumping for the favourite Prospect Wells - the only negative being that I would prefer to see him in a bigger line-up with more chance of getting a pull into the race however Ruby Walsh is a master of dictating his own pace so I have faith that he'll know exactly how to play this one!

Well Captain Canon did well to win and drifted nicely to 9/1 (cannot for the life of me understand that drift!).  I should have gone for Hold Fast (see note 3 below!) but still blog selections ended the day on a non-migraine profit of +14.35 (119.58%)
