Wednesday's Selections & Updates - 23 November

AP is at Wetherby today (Wednesday) and has a 48% (15 wins from 31) over hurdles here.  After my last success, I shall have to have another bash at the Kempton placepot later - although I don't think lightning could strike twice within a week! (selections at foot of this blog)

Thanks to Hurricane Spirit, a very nice healthy profit of +5.27 today (43.9%)

1/         Sea Of Thunder gets away with less of a hike in the weights for his 2 ½ length Thurles win than Hazy Tom does for his head win at Aintree.

Notes:
1/         All but three of the 11 runners like to be up front which would set this up nicely for one coming from behind.  Absa Lutte looks to have the best chance to me but Danzoe also has a decent draw and is up there with a chance on speed figures so is worth an each way.
2/         I would normally stay away from a Kempton runner (even over 10f) from the highest stall but Sand Skier can choose his running style but I’m pretty damn sure that with Nicole Nordblad up, he’ll come tearing down the outside in the final furlong.
3/         I have every faith in the Swedish today!  Compton Bird does carry a penalty and drops back in distance which is more of a worry.  Big Time Charlie may snatch a place if this distance suits better.
4/         Loyalty couldn’t get past Riggins LTO carrying a lb less so I can see so reason this should change this time around (both carry equal weight today).  Clinical seems very well treated here but has never won (or even placed!) on a right handed course which is a concern but there were other contributory factors as well in each instance – she’s also taking on the boys so I’ll err on the side of Loyalty over Clinical this time with Riggins to beat them all!

Kempton 17:05?

I was telling my daughter the real reason why Kieren Fallon was late for the Chester meeting in May for which he was fined £3140 for 'misleading' the stipendiary steward.  It wasn't the heavy traffic that made him late apparently but also/rather he'd had 'a few' drinks the night before (A jockey enjoying a drink or two - good God whatever next?).  So he popped into a police station on the way to ride at > Chester for a voluntary breath test to check that he wasn't over the limit for racing.  When he'd come out of the police station, his driver had been moved along by a traffic warden and took a while to find making him late.  Clever eh?  I guess a £3K fine is better than a 40 day ban and the BHA get their Xmas party paid for as well.

So me and DD have been trying to figure out what other services (apart from free breathalyser tests) the police could offer.  We reckon they could also help with:
Selling a car on Autotrader
The police could provide the photos with one of their many cameras.
Paternity issues
Forget Jeremy Kyle!  You no longer need to make a fool of yourself on national TV to get a result, the whole family could just tootle along for a DNA swab at the local police station.
Antique and art appraisal
Pop in with the loot inheritance and ask one of their experts to tell you if it's genuine and how much it's worth.
Passport photos
They have the camera already set up for mug shots.  Easy!
Stolen Cars
I know this really is actual police work but if you need to speed up the process of finding your stolen car read on.  A friend of mine had his car stolen.  He reported it and could tell that the police weren't going to do an awful lot to find it as it wasn't at the top of the list as priorities go .... until he added "but what about the shotgun in the boot - I was just going hunting!"  (he has a license).  The police found the car in less than half an hour - no gun though.  "Oh yes, silly me!  It's still locked in the cabinet at home - I was going to get it later.  Thanks for finding my car for me so quickly though!"  Classic!

I've upped the ante with my Christmas present list!  Here is a clever tactic that you can employ.  As you may have read here a couple of days ago, I'd really quite like a Racing Post calendar for Christmas.  I've been hinting but decided that subtlety may be wasted on my family so I now have an ongoing "Xmas presents that I'd like to receive" list stuck to the fridge door!  Start small (spoon rest) and then RP calendar progressing through ultra high memory USB card to Chanel No. 19 and finally moving on to new boots.....this makes the RP calendar look like a steal :)
