Wednesday's Selections & Updates - 02 November

Poor Dickie Johnson!  Not only does he end up tasting turf twice on the trot at Exeter on Tuesday but people start with the cries of cheat and fix!  There's an easier way to throw a race than landing on the floor at 30mph!  And have they considered that a horse may get tired on its seasonal début and that could be the reason for falling at the last?  Even top stables don’t start the season with all guns blazing.  This is a big factor in my selections at the moment - taking a look back to see how they perform first time out after a break - some perform at their best after a long (or short) break but the majority of them need the run.

     One To Watch
Nicole Nordblad is a young 16 year old Swedish apprentice who is definitely one to look out for.  She can ride a finish without reaching for her whip at any point – of course it helps if the horse has the right attitude but this talent will be in much demand.  She’s attached to Hans Adielsson and has recently benefited from some one-to-one coaching from John Reid under the BHA Jockey Coach pilot scheme a couple of weeks ago.  Watch out for her – she’s exceptionally good at producing a horse up the outside in the final furlong!

I'm going to be spending some time over the next few days studying the Breeder’s Cup races that are coming up on Friday and Saturday so won’t be looking at so many domestic races (but it'll be worth it).

Fallon has the 'flu, Silvester's on a plane (good luck with that jet lag tomorrow - ouch!) and Hanagan notches up yet another hat trick......you do have to be a certain kind of optimist to think that the title chase isn't now over and in the bag for Hanagan!
