Tuesday's Lucky Escapes (& Profits) - 27 March

Yesterday was a day of lucky escapes!  Adam Beschizza was very lucky to walk away with nothing more than a bloody nose when his mount Aurens in the Lingfield maiden swerved violently to the right giving him no chance of staying in the saddles and Bob Baffert was rushed to hospital in Dubai during the early hours with a heart attack (no prior history) and is recovering nicely after surgery.

In the first at Hereford tomorrow there runs a horse called Constant Contact which is owned by Delboy & Rodney - what an excellent name for a syndicate/partnership!.....and it won!!

I'll concentrate on Hereford first and foremost as my strike rate here is 42.67% (compared to 32.81% for Market Rasen) If time, I'll study the MR card and add some selections later in the morning....

1/         Plenty Pocket should have too much class for this lot but Out Of Nothing should do better this time out with a professional aboard (and Sam TD has as good a record here as any riding in this race).  If he shoots off to the front then he might just be able to stay up there and hang in for a place with such a light weight

2/         DJ Milan fell LTO when in contention but he may need this run to restore confidence

3/         Western Kate is borderline with the penalty and Mrs Peacock will have needed the run LTO.  Both trainer/jockey have a great record here and it would be a surprise if Tim Vaughan (stable now coming back to form) hasn’t been able to bring her on after leaving Norma Twomey.

1/         Had the going been softer, then the choice would have been Langley but its not!

2/         The only question mark I have over Presenting Ace is how he’ll handle this track – otherwise he ticks all boxes!

3/         Midnight Sail will enjoy the return to distance and going (won last time current conditions were combined) and course specialist (4 runs here = 3 wins and a 2^nd) O Crotaigh might be able to follow home.

4/         Tekthelot is attractive but recent stable form is not.  Know Overstreet has a penalty but is improving rapidly enough to overcome this (and Channon is starting to turn out some jumps winners lately too!)

Sunday Nap (between packing, unpacking then packing again) - 11 March

As the blog title suggests, I won't have a lot of time between now and Monday evening for perusing the speediness of equines as I shall be attempting to fit everything I need (want) into the small boot of my car - I may let hubby borrow a corner for some clean socks.....


A good profitable day for the blog on Saturday which added some £££s to the betting coffers.  I'll be putting my Cheltenham selections on each day next week and hope my studying pays off!

Nightly nap is Swaledale Lad running at Market Rasen 16:55.  He wasn't too far back in second LTO on his hurdling debut and may have done have got even closer with better ground.  I wouldn't fall over in astonishment if Who Owns Me doesn't turn in a half decent performance at a big each  way price now dropping in trip although he'll probably need softer ground to be shown to his best.

Sunday's Selections & Updates - 19 February

A good day yesterday with some excellent results - not just for the blog selections but a double for Robert 'Choc' Thornton on only his third day back from sustaining a horrific arm injury that required a lot of metal and stitches (RoboChoc?).  


Alan King's stable is apparently about to hit some good form if the signals are correct - not too early before CheltFest hopefully.


Well I'm up at stupid o'clock on a Sunday morning, on my second cup of coffee and the early birds are just beginning to makes bird-like noises - I think they're appreciating my healthier eating as there is always some stale (wholemeal) bread left for them and now they wait around the corner at daybreak for their breakfast!

I was way off with my suggestion of a McCain/Maguire lucky 31 for Haydock yesterday but I feel a little safer suggesting a Tizzard (5 winners yesterday) each way patent today as I cannot imagine they won't be placed (see notes/selections below)!  The Tizzard runners at Ffos Las today are:

Notes:

1/            Ohio Gold has entries to the Supreme and Neptune (ran in Neptune last year).  Colin Tizzard (5 winners yesterday) has two runners in this – with Brendan Powell Jnr (who’s won twice aboard previously) claiming on Ohio and Joe riding the other Jumps Road.

2/            Benheir would be top of my list but the stable hasn’t been firing recently so has been demoted (even with McCoy booked).  Milarrow was undone by the gluey heavy ground LTO (officially described as soft – don’t believe it!).  He has 4lbs less to haul around here today and can go one better.

3/            Cross The Flags should manage to win this and although Lady Karinga is still well in the grip of the handicapper, she may run into a place at a big enough price.  

4/            Serecina was last seen in the Foxhunter last year.  Goes well fresh (two only wins have come after a long break) and always ridden by trainer Chloe Roddick.

'Twiglet The Piglet' has one of the best names I've seen for a while - she is running in the 13:40 at Market Rasen but unfortunately has as much chance of winning as either the first or last part of her name!

Anyone who subscribes to this blog may notice that they get a couple of emails a day this past month.  This is because I have started to republish the blog once all my selections are up and before the first race I've selected for - a means of proofing the selections if you like!  

Sunday's Lazy & Late Selections and Updates - 22 January

After a fun family night out (members of the Sandi clan unit from far flung outposts) I am up (very late!), caffeinated (but not yet up to my fully functioning level!) and about to look through today's (Good God, it's fairly busy for a Sunday!) racing!


Ascot are giving all their Premier enclosure customers from yesterdays 'Orange sticker' racing day a full refund.....I wonder who on earth thought that this could have ever been a good idea?  I've heard of companies and organisations being run by a bunch of little Hitlers but that was a (goose) step too far!!
