An eventful weekend of various misdemeanours and misfortunes for jockeys, trainers and horses!
Aiden O'Brien's tax bill caught up with him and he paid €526K to the Revenue in settlement of unpaid corporation tax, PAYE and PRSI (Ireland's equivalent of NI) - most of it interest and penalties. It seems to be a 'mistake' very common in horse racing, this non-payment of taxes!
Eddie Ahern 'forgot' to weigh in at Ayr on Saturday - despite having to walk past the scales to do this - and got himself a 3 day ban for Arc De Triomphe weekend.
Pat Dobbs is out for the rest of the season with a fractured arm which needs operating on. He was on course to have 50 winners this season for the first time ever. In 2009, he was in the same position and ..... broke his arm!
Imperial Commander is out for the entire season after suffering a tendon injury in Northern Ireland where he always has his pre-season conditioning. It surely has to be questionable whether he will be able to come back at the same level and his age next year - poor old boy with his scarred knees! I have a soft spot for him since putting all my St Pat's day profits in 2010 on him in the Gold Cup.
I had an introductory 'practise' with the hurdle today at Plumpton and Uttoxeter and picked Sinadou for a decent each way price (3rd), New Code which was each way so the 3rd got me my stake returned and Pride of Mine which was a fail! I did make money with Jeannie Galloway and Sonapour (just beaten into 2nd) on the flat.
I mentioned that my best strike rate is with novice hurdles over 2 miles (class 4 but then most are) so this is most likely what I shall concentrate on over the winter - at least with real ££££s - together with the AW cards (I am one of the few fans!)....and the Breeders Cup and Dubai.
Friday and Saturday's system selections haven't exactly been all winners! Until the arrival of the revival, small stakes are in order...
Today's trio are:
Leicester
15:20 Catalyze (2.58) 3rd
17:20 Ferruccio (4.6) 3rd
Kempton
16:30 Word Power (4.9) UP
No winners today for the system and a -3 loss
Ferruccio is the first name of the founder of Lamborghini - a very wantable and pretty concept car (Ferruccio Lamborghini) has also been named in his honour
I have a note on the go about Sand Owl who is running in the 16:00 Kempton. A lot of £££s were coming for it on the 25 Aug (Lingfield Class 4) then later in the day it was scratched - worth a second look? UP (4th)
A random thought that I has over the weekend (with the racing in Ayr and Hamilton so far from HQ) is that jockeys must get crucified for their car insurance! All those long days, miles and miles every year, driving late at night.....insurance companies can't like that much.

A catalyze is when Tiddles tells the dog that the its good fun to chew live electrical cables
