Saturday's Soggy Selections & Updates - 21 January

Haydock inspected at 07:30am and it a go!  The wind and rain is not stopping a hardy Northern racetrack from putting on a great day's racing with the Peter Marsh chase.  The weather today will be throwing (literally in Haydocks case I think) a few big priced winners over the line first!

Even the lack of a single winner will not stop me from looking again at Meydan though.  Shafya spoilt the "Suroor/Cumani 11f tapeta" party yesterday by winning with his runner - nerve of the man spoiling my stats like that!  No matter, there's another 11f tapeta Meydan race tomorrow (14:50) so normal balance can be restored.  The Suroor runner is Tahaamah with SDS up (no Frankie at Meydan tomorrow).  Tahaamah was a bit of a monkey at the stalls on his last attempt at racing and was withdrawn so hopefully he can behave better this time out.  I may hide a few selections at the foot of this blog later.....

Just looking through today's racing and I cannot believe that Mon Mome has never won since the Grand National!  I'm amazed.

Notes:
3/            I’ve gone for a couple of the old boys here each way.  Mount Oscar hasn’t been seen on a racecourse since last Feb but on the 5 occasions he has returned from a long break , he’s won once, came 3rd three times and failed once so an each way should bear fruit – more of a worry is the current stable form but they’re coming a long way just for this one race here today.  The Sawyer will love these conditions.

Notes:
1/            Negatives for Triolo D’Alene is winning form is in tiny fields, Oldrik’s penalty
3/            Thought long and hard about FR (I do love Al Ferof) but despite some clever hack from RP worrying about going right handed after the dodgy jumping at Kempton LTO (despite winning here easily over hurdles!), there is no way that I think for one moment that he won’t have been schooled to within an inch of his life between then and now.
4/            Appears that Nick Williams has found a key!  Down in grade, course winners, distance winner, going winner so should be in the shake up

I just threw some stale cake out for the blackbird and robin that always wait outside the back door at day break.  I forgot to crumble it and nearly took the robin's head off.....whoops!

Sunday's Selections & Updates - 08 January

Not at all bad a day yesterday for the blog selections with a nice profit despite the refusal of Master Of The Hall in the 15:10 at Sandown.  My DD (dear daughter) has a remedy for naughty Irish horseys who refuse to jump.......place a pint of Guinness the other side of each fence (not stereotyping an entire nation there at all!)

15:30 Hereford
The racing today is from Hereford, Naas and Southwell AW.  My strike rate for Hereford (cow country) is pretty good at over 40% but I boasted this on here last time and failed dismally....which means that if the stats are to be believed then each and every one of my top rows should win to pull the figures back in line.....I'll list my 'considered' selections along with the top row for the card (and a reason if they aren't one and the same) and we can see how it pans out! For the reckoning up, I'll assume 1pt for each pick on the Hereford selections.

At 14:10, I can see where the Hereford picks are heading.....top line all the way!

Impressive five out of seven for the Hereford top line selections on the right.
Profits of +12.75 today (67%)

Notes:
1/            Castle Conflict looks better suited to further  Edlomond now a NR so if looking for an ew alternative to Castle Conflict then Wheres Wal or Tenspinhits is worth a look.
2/            Perhaps I’m being contrary opposing Johnny Owen despite his obvious claims – concern is for the quick turnaround and the softer going.
5/            Goddam awful race which I wouldn’t normally contemplate looking at but for going through the card!  The Tatkin in first time blinkers is very appealing (and money for him) but although he’s raced on heavy, I think he’d prefer less juice.
6/            Niceonefrankie was initially Top Line but I checked and recalculated and this was a mistake (he has no sort of form on soft going either)!
7/            Bumpers aren’t usually my thing but since I’m going through the card ……!

Sunday's Selections & Updates - 16 October

I shan't be updating the blog for Monday - I think it prudent on the day that the PJA and BHA are 'talking' and the abandoned strike was to take place, to issue myself a watching brief.
Back with a vengeance with selections for Tueday though.

Well I can forgive Ascot for pinching Champions Day from Newmarket if that's the kind of racing that we'll see next year as well!  Let's hope that Qipco still want to sponsor and foreign jockeys still want to ride next year....

Today’s selections are:

Bath
14:00  Bateleur (6.4) 2nd
15:05  Birdwatcher (4.5) UP
15:35  Exceedance (3.3) UP
17:15  Whitecrest (15) 4th  Diamond Vine (32) UP

I felt compelled to include Wooden King In the last race in a Lucky 15 - ok, I selected it by stupid mistake so ....it was too early in the morning with too little caffeine in my system at that point in time.

So you see Ryan, the horses in Ireland are only this big..........even you are too big to ride them so you really don't want to be going over there and squashing those poor little horseys now do you?

I've had a look at the Naas card today (I do like a challenge on a Sunday) and have various multis on the following:

Naas
14:10  Miracle Cure UP
14:40  Birds Eye View 2nd (win) & Pandemonium (ew) UP
15:15  Janey Muddles UP (win) & Lady Rocheford UP (ew)
15:45  Malayan Mist UP
16:20  Donnas Palm 2nd
16:50  Bobby John UP

149                     142                    140
      56                    56                        25
