Saturday's Charlie Hall Selections Day & Results - 29 October

It's a strange thing but when I put up a pic or video relating to one of the selections then it seems to win more often than not.  I shan't be acting on my daughter's suggestion of filling this blog with pics and videos so that they're coming at us from all angles though...............

The news was (quietly) announced yesterday that Professor Tim Morris is taking on a new role in addition to his executive post at the BHA, where he is currently Director of Equine Science and Welfare.  He will have a non-executive position at the newly created government run 'Animal Health And Welfare Board for England' - an offshoot of Defra. I'm sure that his job there must be a little easier since the whip rules were introduced during his time at the BHA.  Perhaps renaming it BTHA might be an idea (the T stand for Trojan!).

The first board meeting will take place on 08 November and I wait with anticipation to see if anyone else who might be leaving their posts in November also jumps ship to join.......well, not so much 'jumping ship' as walking along the very carefully planned, surveyed and painstakingly constructed path!

I did back Parish Hall in the Dewhurst each way as well as Bronterre (and stuck a combi tricast with Power &Bronterre) - tweeted it, posted it on RUK forum and tipped on GG.COM competitions so not completely after timed!  

Wolves 18:30 - I am double handed in this and have gone with Lily Wood (ew) as it comes out top row of my spreadsheet and also Circuitous (again ew) as Dalgleish has a fab strike rate here and I like the high draw over 6f (50% win rate despite popular misconception)

Wolves 19:00 - past observations have flagged up that 2nd string Al Zarooni runners in maidens do well, especially with a good jockey up, a decent draw and a Derby entry!
Captivate      8/1 each way 2nd (now don't be surprised but Fallon didn't make it on time and Fanning took the ride)

Cruiskeen

The name of the race comes from Tsesarevich which is the title of the heir to the throne in old Russia and was named for Tsar Alexander II who donated £300 to the jockey club.  
The first running was back in 1839 when it was won by Cruiskeen who also won the Chester Cup.  Last year it was won by Aaim To Prosper.  

No horse has ever won this more than once and in recent years only Willie Carson, Lester Piggott, Gary Carter and Royston Ffrench have ridden the winner on more than one occasion.

Only 2 favourites have won from the last 10 running and all but 2 have been drawn high (don’t forget that since it’s a right hand course, the stall numberings changed this March so when you look at past runnings and see the winner came from stall 1, this would equate to 34 today!).  The one winner who came from a low draw was given an excellent (and lucky in running) ride by Eddie Ahern for Nicky Henderson who is aboard Veiled today which bodes well.  
All of the past 10 winners had previously won at 2m whether this be flat or jumps.  


I'm going double handed on Veiled and Keys for this - both each way at 14/1 with a small (lively outsider bet - as if they aren't all in this race!) on Cosimo De Medici at 16/1


My darts weren't sharp enough today!  The winner was Never Can Tell ridden by Frankie (who was one of the few who walked the course before racing) and drawn stall 36 (see notes above)

Saturday’s Selections & Results – 01 October

I am intending on early Sunday morningness to absorb today's results at Longchamp, attempt to arrive at an accurate going description (any where between good to firm and soft depending on who you listen to), update my draw bias and work out some winner!

White Rabbits!!  The start of a lucky new month. 

It was certainly a lucky end to the month yesterday for me when I covered all the low drawn horses that I thought had half a chance in the last race, 5 in total, at Dundalk (1m 4f low drawn winners = 72.73% for future reference!) on and the longest price of all these ridden by Joseph O’Brien won at 49/1 (Betfair).  Celebrations are however NOT the reason the blog is late today – that’s just boring home stuff getting in the way.   

In honour of all things French and ‘Longchamp-like’ I have added a video song by French Chanteuse Patricia Kaas which is just the sort of music you want to be listening to in a French bar on a hot October weekend.  This way, those of us not lucky enough to be in Paris this Arc weekend can pretend:

Not the best start to the month with a loss of -7.2 and I think perhaps Mr Fallon was knackered by the end of today!!  Onwards and upwards....


I make no apologies for so many Fallon/Wolves selections as they all fit the system criteria.  He has a great book of rides at Wolves tonight where he does well - most with trainers who do also do extremely well there.  Expect a 'push' today for the champions title - make or break time with a total of 12 rides today......

Friday's Selections & Results - 23 September

Nobody won the Newmarket jackpot today so it's highly likely to top the £2.5 million figure tomorrow and break the Tote Jackpot record.  I'll have a go but minimal ££££s as all of the syndicates will be out in force for this one and throwing tens of thousands a go at it.  
I do however, think that I've lived my life long enough without one of these and so it should be my turn to win tomorrow:
Well I found 3 of the winners (see below) but 124 tickets (people?) found all six and won £16,610 each.  There have been unconfirmed rumours that anyone putting the tote bet on via Betfair had their funds debited but the ticket wasn't placed with the Tote - if true then a major balls up of legal action magnitude!

Thursday's Selections & Results - 22 September

A much better day yesterday - back on track with a couple of winners (one for the system and one for my review).  
I have a (rather OCD-ish?) routine for picking my selections for which I follow a check list.  It sounds a little over the top but it helps concentrate my mind  So yesterday evening, I accidentally put on some  relaxing classical music whilst doing this which had a lot to do with Debussy running and yesterday's blog (the studies say it helps kids to do their homework so.....) and after my relatively successful day on Wednesday I shall stick to this classical stuff for the time being! 

It would be very nice to find six winners at Newmarket on Thursday!  The Tote (BetFred?) jackpot is sizing up to pay out in excess of £1 million after the last two ticket holders today (£1.50) were both on the favourite Dance For Julie which came nowhere in the final leg (sixth race).  
It's not that long ago that Steve Whiteley, the heating engineer from Devon won £1.5 million on the Exeter jackpot.  He travelled to the course by bus with his free bus pass and his entry to the course was free with a voucher.   All great for the big Tote PR machine except.....in his first ever interview immediately after he won on course he sounded a little miffed that he had needed to travel on the bus as he'd planned to get a lift with his bookie friend in his car but there was no room.  That interview wasn't repeated...........Fair play to him though - it's not easy to pick 6 consecutive winners (understatement of the year?) and he even went back to finish the heating job he was half way through before winning.

Al Zarooni is on fire just at the moment with three winners on Wednesday (from 6 runners) and I find it hard to believe that any of his runners are deemed second fiddle to Bin Suroors right now even with Ahmed Atjebi riding!!  There is (was?) some value to be found looking for two Godolphin runners in a race and backing the Al Zarooni one if it's the outside at an each way price!
